Nikortsminda temple was built in 1010-1014. The temple has the shape of a cross. Several XVII century frescos are well preserved in the interior, the most famous ones are “Transfiguration”, “The Second Coming”, and “Figures of Saints”. The temple was renovated in 1634. The belfry was built in the 2nd half of the 19th century. The church is especially known for its stunning facade bas-reliefs.
Nikortsminda – Bagrat III (975 – 1014) was the first king of united Georgia. His name is
associated with the construction of the Bagrati, Nikortsminda, Bedia and Motsameta temples.

Galaktion Tabidze, the Georgian poet, dedicated the poem “Praise of Nikortsminda” to this beautiful temple.
